Why Do We Suffer?

For righteousness sake, or is it because you are walking contrary to the will of God?
It's important that we examine ourselves and be honest with us and God, if we ever want to walk in victory.

Here are a few scriptures to help you.

Hebrews 12:7 NIV
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?

1 Peter 3:17 NIV
For it is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

Acts 5:41 NIV
The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.

1 Peter 2:19-21 NIV
For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

1 Peter 4:14 NIV
If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

2 Timothy 3:12 NIV
In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NIV
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.

1 Corinthians 11:27-30 NIV
So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

Ezekiel 23:49 NIV
"You will suffer the penalty for your lewdness and bear the consequences of your sins of idolatry. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign Lord."

Galatians 6:7 NIV
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

God is in a hurry to forgive and restore because He always wants to be in fellowship and celebrates with and over us. He knows we are not perfect but His character requires that we walk with Him in the light and in truth.

Zephaniah 3:17 NIV
The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing."

1 John 1:7 NIV
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Matthew 5:8 NIV
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
